Arugba plot
This story about the king of an imaginary city who wants to eradicate corruption while pursuing rigorous economic reforms and luring foreign investors is an obvious parody of former President Obasanjo. This portrait of leadership forms an important second storyline in a baroque love story about the Arugba - the virgin who carries the sacrificial gourd during Osun Osogbo's festival - and a young dancer who has his sights on her. Against the backdrop of a corrupt society in search of purification, rebirth and a national identity, the Arugba must fulfill its annual traditional role, bringing the sacrifice in procession to the river.
