The year is 1919. Decades ago, German families settled in a Ukrainian village to cultivate the rich soil. Close friends Anton and Jakob also live here. Despite their differences in faith - Anton is Catholic, Jakob is Jewish - their bond is very strong. Both have vivid imaginations and their imagined world protects them from the ubiquitous fear and violence.
