American Methods plot

The American William Armstrong inherits an iron mine in France. He travels there with his sister Betty to take over the business. On the spot he meets Claire de Beaulieu. She is engaged to the nefarious Duke of Bligny. When Claire's family loses their fortune, the Duke leaves her for the daughter of a wealthy industrialist. William also falls in love with Claire. In this way he becomes entangled in a web of intrigue.
