América plot

Liza is a young Russian immigrant who is married to a Portuguese. Together they have a son. Her husband Vitor is a petty thief who scams people and steals from old ladies. Mauro, the child of the two, is a strange kid who has decided not to talk. Liza takes care of Vitor's 100-year-old grandmother, who is bedridden and rejects all help from Liza. Fernanda, Vitor's Spanish ex-wife, decides to take advantage of the large numbers of illegal immigrants entering Portugal and starts trading illegal passports. One of those illegal immigrants is Andrei, a young orthopedist from Ukraine who is wanted by the Russian mafia. He falls in love with Liza.
