Alzire oder der Neue Kontinent plot

The ghosts of the philosophers Rousseau and Voltaire, who died 200 years ago, observe the laborious rehearsals of 'Alzire ou les Américains', Voltaire's play about Latin America. Rousseau disputes the usefulness of staging, Voltaire defends the need to reach other people against complacent cultism. The actors split up, some really leave for South America, others - influenced by an Indian actor - update the play.
