Working Girls plot
"We love, we struggle, we have dreams, just like you!"
Working Girls tells three stories about the important role of women in Indonesia. The first story is about 14-year-old Ayu Riana, who becomes a local celebrity after winning a talent contest. We see her struggle with being a childhood idol, being a normal teenager who has to do homework, but also the pressure on her shoulders now that she is the breadwinner of the family. We also see a nomadic group of female actors who make theater in the traditional way and who know how to make ends meet. Finally, we follow transgender Ulfie, infected with HIV, who only returns to her village in Aceh after many years for fear of discrimination. When she returns to her village, she is shocked to see the lack of proper sex education and decides to give information to the community about unprotected sex herself.
