We Were Rebels plot

In November 1990, as a ten-year-old boy, Agel first got hold of an AK-47. In the late eighties and early nineties he was trained as a fighting machine in the fight for an independent South Sudan. He lost countless friends and relatives. After his time as a child soldier, Agel ended up in Australia via Kenya and now he is back as a free man in South Sudan, independent since 2011. As captain of the national basketball team, he sees how the fragile democracy of the youngest country in the world is reflected in his team.
