The unknown internet millionaire Josh Harris has always been fascinated by the influence of new media on everyday life. Harris launched his Big Brother avant la lettre by starting an experiment in 1999 in New York City where about a hundred artists in one space are monitored every second of the day via cameras and the internet. According to Harris, the 'Quiet, We Live in Public' project was an analogy of what the internet would look like in reality. Sleeping, showering, sex; everything was filmed, viewed and commented on within the community. After the inevitable implosion of 'Quiet', this 'Andy Warhol of the cyber generation' had 32 cameras installed in his and his girlfriend's home to give internet users insight into their daily worries. This project also collapsed. Filmmaker Ondi Timoner was one of the residents of the Quiet project and peered into Harris's life for ten years.
