We Live Here plot

An elderly man recounts his memories of vast mushroom clouds; his son navigates hospital corridors and consulting rooms in the hope of saving his daughter's life; and scientists in protective suits map contaminated zones: surreal figures in a deceptively serene steppe landscape. Director Zhanana Kurmasheva calmly yet poignantly portrays the trauma of several generations of a family living near the former Soviet testing site of Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan.
