Water & Bier plot

Over a period of one year, the rowers of DRSV Laga work towards the Varsity: the most prestigious rowing competition of the season. In this documentary, we see how the men of De Ouden Vier try to work their way to victory with nothing less than hard training, and how the female rowers, with unprecedented dedication, come closer and closer to a place in the Dutch team.

Lisa Boerstra dives into a specific element of student life by focusing her camera on the Delft Student Rowing Association LAGA. In the 147th year of this elite association, Julia “Mrs” Van Mens is the President of the club and rowing coach Jelle Freund has to select and train the best rowers from 250 registrations for the rowing season. The sporting highlight is the Varsity on the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. Of course, there is attention for the parties with beer and Bokma, but fortunately Boerstra mainly focuses on the traditions, the meaning of such an association for the members (and the selected rowers in particular) and the mentoring role that the board members take on to help the young rowers grow individually and as a team.
