Von Werra plot
Franz Baron von Werra was a World War II German fighter pilot. He became world famous during the war, not for his flying achievements, but for being the only German pilot ever to escape from a British POW camp and return to Germany. Von Werra was shot down over England in September 1940 and captured. He escaped almost immediately after his incarceration and after a journey of 7 months he returned to Germany in April 1941. This act made him a hero in Germany and a star in the German propaganda machine. Von Werra did not survive the war, however: 6 months after his spectacular escape, he was shot again, this time with fatal outcome. Von Werra's adventures were filmed in 1956 with the movie: The One that Got Away.
