Vida Férrea plot
A good 1,100 tons of metals are transported by train in a long journey of almost 300 kilometers. In Steel Life we ride peacefully on a freight train, from the high Cerro de Pasco to the coast near Lima. A journey through beautiful landscapes, in which we get to know the disillusioned inhabitants of Peru better at the same time. Peruvian director Manuel Bauer makes his full-length film debut with this subdued portrait, in which he visits villages passed by the train. One resident is concerned about lead poisoning among the children, the other has seen his native village empty. “I am a stranger in my own city,” says Manuel.
