Unlocking the Cage plot

Steven M. Wise (1952) is an American lawyer who specializes in animal protection issues. He teaches animal rights at several universities. In this documentary he is followed in his struggle to break down the legal wall between humans and animals. He starts a lawsuit to change a chimpanzee from "a thing without rights" into a "person" with legal protection.
