Thwara Zanj plot
Ibn Battuta is a journalist for an Algerian newspaper. While documenting conflicts in southern Algeria, he becomes extremely interested in the 8th- and 9th-century uprisings against the Abbasid Caliphate (749-1258), an empire of which Baghdad was the capital at the time. . For his research he goes to Beirut, Baghdad and the coast of Shatt al-Arab, where the Tigris and Euphrates meet. Black slaves who were forced to irrigate the land south of the Euphrates revolted there.
