Three Sparks plot
This documentary is an intimate sketch of village life in Albania, gratefully produced by a visitor. When Mexican artist Naomi Uman lived in Ukraine and met Albanians there, they advised her to visit their country. Her work mainly focuses on the lives of the women and children she encounters. Quoting from the Kanun, a book of laws and customs written around 1450, Uman explores ideas about gender and gender fluidity, using herself as an example by occasionally appearing on screen. Despite personal setbacks, her dedication to the project is immense, against the backdrop of the daily activities of a number of villagers, who plow the fields, prepare food and tend to the livestock.
