The Subversives plot

Documentary about the life of one of the most important defenders of human rights. Van Boven, professor emeritus at the Faculty of Law in Maastricht and former director of the United Nations Division of Human Rights (1977-1982), was one of the first to defend responsibility for international human rights with great courage and honesty. He came face to face with the most oppressive regimes of the 20th century. However, rather than being discouraged, Van Boven took drastic action, starting with a landmark working group that launched an investigation into Chile. He opened the doors to the UN for refugees and survivors of torture for the first time. When the Disappearances Working Group was approved, he and his team defied not only Latin American military dictatorial regimes but other governments worldwide.
