The Oil Machine plot
"Can we break our addiction?"
Gone are the days when we dared to call oil 'liquid gold'. But our economic, historical and even emotional connection to oil is still very much alive. Oil is in everything from your pension fund to the products in your kitchen cupboard. We are heavily dependent on oil, or rather, we are addicted to it. From various perspectives, this film examines an industry that is deeply rooted in our society, but which must change. The polluting 'machine' causes the sea level to rise irrevocably. Oil company directors as well as economists and young activists speak about the conflicting interests surrounding oil. Because despite the agreements in the Paris Climate Agreement, drilling licenses are still being issued.
