The Iron plot

As armed conflict flares up on the fringes of Europe, the anniversary of World War II is being used to prime minds for renewed struggle. In Azerbaijan, the recent expulsion of the Armenian population from Nagorno-Karabakh is being presented as a national success. And in Russia, the invasion of Ukraine is being equated with the victory over fascism in 1945, with much flag-waving, bombastic language and tank parades.
