The Ice King plot
On the basis of film footage of his most extraordinary performances, his private letters, archive interviews and interviews with friends, family and colleagues, a portrait is sketched of a man who transformed figure skating from an outdated sport into a true art form: John Curry. After winning a gold medal at the Olympics, Curry became the first Olympian to come out as gay at the 1976 World Cup at a time when homosexuality was barely legal. From bullying and prejudice to relief in the gay community and his untimely death from AIDS in 1994, Curry's life story ties in with the experiences of an entire generation.
