The Cool School plot
The film focuses on the Ferus Gallery, which transformed the Los Angeles art scene from a band of separately operating beatniks into a tight-knit group of competitive, often brilliant artists, such as Ed Kienholz, Ed Ruscha, Craig Kauffman, Wallace Berman, Ed Moses and Robert Irwin. The Ferus Gallery also acted as a platform for the 'import' from New York, such as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and Roy Lichtenstein, and also played a pioneering role, with, for example, the first Pop Art expo and Marcel Duchamp's first retrospective. Over the years what has been lost and won has become entwined in a complex web of egos, passion, money and art.
