The Audition plot
Susan Froemke followed the eleven finalists of an opera competition organized by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. These are exciting moments for the young musicians, who want nothing more than to break through. But only one in a thousand talents will ever become a famous opera performer. They continue at all costs. That is about much more than singing: self-confidence, controlling your nerves, getting the best out of yourself. Everything plays a part in this competition, from small, technical details to something as vague as 'positive thinking'. Froemke shows the contrast between the world in front of and behind the scenes, the beauty of the human voice, but above all how much worry is hidden behind a top performance.
