State 194 plot
In 2011, after many failed peace negotiations with Israel, the Palestinian National Authority applies to the United Nations for recognition of Palestine as the 194th member state. In preparation for the application, Prime Minister Salam Fayyed will launch an ambitious infrastructure plan in 2009. Fayyad travels through the Palestinian territories to gain support for his plan. His modern political style is meant to show that the Palestinians are ready to become a nation-state. Public buildings are being built everywhere and even remote villages are being supplied with electricity. At the same time, it becomes clear that Fayyad cannot achieve anything as long as political negotiations with Israel stall. In July 2011, the UN Security Council will meet to discuss the Palestinian application.
