Somaudo Monogatari plot

The Weald is a documentary portrait of six groups of elderly people living in the Yoshino Mountains in Nara Prefecture. Kawase Naomi focused directly on the hearts of these people in her film and listened attentively to their stories. She refused to analyze their lives; she wanted to portray these people as they are. Held together by fragments of a sad melody, the film combines the loneliness of a single, aging woman with the sadness of a couple who lost a child and the dreams of the villagers.
