Soft Fiction plot
In this experimental documentary, filmmaker Chick Strand collaborates with five women who tell their experiences through direct and candid stories. Strand's technique focuses on close-ups of facial expressions, profiles and attention to physical gestures such as the tension of the hands, resulting in a unique documentary about intimacy and sexuality. This approach creates an elliptical mise-en-scene in which little context is provided and the subjects are presented as conversation partners rather than as characters. Through these testimonies, the film explores the identification and representation of femininity, and the sense of possession and dispossession through different types of sexuality.
