"The call of conscience"
In Sri Lanka, journalists risk life and limb to practice their profession. One of these champions was Lasantha Wickrematunge. He was shot by eight men in broad daylight. A few days after their wedding, his wife Sonali Samarasinghe had to arrange the funeral of her new husband. In addition to being editor-in-chief of the critical newspaper The Morning Leader, he was a fierce opponent of the Sri Lankan government. His wife worked closely with him as a lawyer and journalist and soon after his death she was forced to leave the country by the government.
