Sanatorium plot

Russian Masha Osipova experiences a traumatic event at a young age that shapes her for life: she is sent to children's sanatoria in Russia during Soviet times. A clinical shelter where Masha and many other children undergo all sorts of obscure health treatments. Children are kept away from their parents several times and for longer periods. In Sanatorium, Masha goes back to a world she has no fond memories of and confronts her parents about why they did that to her.
