Salma plot

As a 13-year-old girl, the Indian Salma was taken out of school by her parents and married off. Locked up in her in-laws' house, she took refuge in poetry. With the help of her parents, she smuggles the poems out of the house and they end up in the hands of a publisher. Against all odds, Salma grows into a celebrated Tamil poet and manages to escape her bleak life.
