Live to work or work to live? In Japan, workers often seem to have no choice. In a society where work is central, there is little time left for private or family life. The faceless workers are all too often seen as replaceable cogs in the labor system. Filmmaker Pacheco gives the anonymous employee a voice in this documentary.

In some reviews on Letterboxd, there is criticism of the documentary filmmaker's choice to sprinkle lime around the sleeping salaryman, only to take Polaroid photos of it afterwards. It crossed my mind too: exploitative and unethical. But this approach does fit the point Allegra Pachecho wants to make, namely how normalized the image of men sleeping on the street has become. And this despite the fact that, at its core, it is actually quite a sad phenomenon. Pachecho may also have asked these men for permission afterwards. After all, the film ends with her seeking contact with one of them.
