Sahman plot
In Border, inspired by a true story he himself witnessed, Khachatryan considers the tragedy that befell his people during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the 1990s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He does so without words and even without human protagonists, through a story about a buffalo trapped in a ditch somewhere in the countryside. He is taken to a farm where a collection of animals, farmers and refugees are hiding to recover from the conflict. Everyone looks at the buffalo with great suspicion. For a year we follow life on the farm and in the surrounding villages through the eyes of the buffalo; the seasons pass and life follows their leisurely pace.
