Récréations plot
Claire Simon observes toddlers playing on a playground of a children's garden in Paris. The kids are completely absorbed in their play and don't even notice the cameras. Sometimes they are nice to each other, but the next moment their cruelty knows no bounds. And yet everything remains utterly innocent. Their game is only interrupted by the school bell. Fear, love, sadness, greed, competition, all the emotions from the daily life of an adult can be found in this child's world, but without complexes and without reason. Jumping over a bank can be as hair-raising and exhausting a struggle as climbing Everest. Simon manages, with many close-up shots, to capture this childhood world on pellicule. She makes us part of this universe, a stage of life that we have all gone through, but have long forgotten.
