Please Hold the Line plot
In her debut documentary, director Sabine Konig portrays a telephone shop annex barbershop in the heart of Amsterdam. Every day immigrants call loved ones, friends or family in their motherland. They moved to the Netherlands for political or religious reasons or purely out of love. “Please Hold the Line” tells the story of, among others, a Turkish man, a Yugoslav girl, an Iranian woman and a Dutch woman. Through interviews and by observing the callers during the often emotional telephone conversations, the film shows how difficult it is to live between two cultures: your own and that of the adopted country.
