Plastic China plot
Yi Jie's uneducated parents left their area of origin in search of work. They now sort and recycle plastic waste from Europe, the United States and Asia. The family literally lives between mountains of plastic and filthy combustion fumes. Yet the children always manage to find hidden treasures: a bag with balloons, beautiful magazines to cut out pictures and create new stories. It offers them a glimpse of another, so much richer life, full of opportunities that they will never get. Yi Lie can't even go to school; according to the boss because her father drowns everything, according to her father because he earns too little. It seems a hopeless situation. The boss and his family still dream of a better future. When they take Yi Jie and her father to a gaudy car show, they find themselves completely lost, in a world they will never connect with.
