Opernfieber plot
Opernfieber is a portrait of the lavish Italian opera culture. Director Katharina Rupp travels to opera houses, talks to singers and conductors, but also highlights the claqeur, a peculiar profession that dates back to the early days of Italian opera. Applause is to an opera singer what bread is to an ordinary mortal. That is why, says a renowned claqeur, he is in the hall every evening with a team of clap specialists. In the film, musicians and claqeurs reminisce about Giuseppi Verdi, Maria Callas and the time when opera was as important as football.
