On the Ropes plot

"The real fight is outside the ring."

For two years, documentary makers Nanette Burstein and Brett Morgen followed members of a boxing club in the New York borough of Brooklyn. Once the club spawned superstars like Riddick Bowe and Mark Breland, now a new generation of young boxers is in the same ring. They hope to push themselves higher, but their past continues to haunt them. Tyrene has to appear in court for possession of cocaine and Noel has to contend with a family that has fallen apart: his father has run away, his mother is a former crack addict. George is still the best.
