Oltremare plot

In a small village Borgo Tossignano near Imola, part of the population moves to the Italian colonies in Africa. Some do it out of necessity to escape poverty and others are looking for adventure. Fascist propaganda had presented the areas as the promised land under the sun. But their dream falls apart after several years of hard work as the war puts an end to colonies forcing these emigrants back to their village where they are looked down upon. Their epic is reviewed on the basis of interviews, memoirs and photographic material: an exploration of a part of Italy that these people brought to Africa.
