This documentary portrays the extraordinary life of Rudolf Nureyev, the famous male dancer who became the pop culture icon of his time. The documentary traces the period from the humble beginnings of his career to the moment when he defected to the west, an event that shocked the whole world. The film not only provides a picture of the man himself, but also of the time in which he lived, focusing on the political tensions between Russia and the West, and the important role Nureyev played as a cultural and global phenomenon. The documentary combines never-before-seen footage, original film music by the composer Alex Baranowski with a series of modern dance scenes directed by Russell Maliphant, a former dancer with the Royal Ballet.
