Ntarabana plot
“Trauma is alleviated a bit when the tragedy is collective,” says Anastasie Murekaze. The tragedy she speaks of took place between April 6 and July 4, 1994, when incited Hutus began killing in Rwanda. They targeted compatriots, Tutsis and moderate Hutus, of whom more than a million eventually died. In Ntarabana, somewhere in the north of Rwanda, Rugwiza Froduald and Mukankundiye Anne-Marie tried to protect Tutsis during the genocide by hiding them at the risk of their own lives. In this documentary, the Belgian-Cameroonian director François L. Woukoache mainly wants to listen to the stories and try to understand something of the horror that gripped the country at the time.
