Nikki plot

Documentary maker Monique Nolte portrays what it is like for children to grow up with a parent who suffers from a mental disorder. What is it like if your father or mother cannot always take care of you? When should you be protected from your own parent as a child? And to what extent do you end up in a loyalty conflict as a child? All questions that Nolte was looking for answers to before meeting 12-year-old Nikki and her mother at the time. The two agreed that the documentary maker would follow them with a camera for 4 years. The good moments, but also the lows. On the one hand there is a lot of guilt, sadness and pain, but on the other hand Nikki and her mother also make many beautiful memories together.
