Nick & Chai plot

On November 8, 2013, Nick and Chai lost their four children during Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. Four months later they try to rebuild a meaningful life with what they have left. The camera first registers the superficial cheerfulness with which they both get through the days – Chai jokes about how she is no longer a mother. Now childless, the couple focuses on rebuilding a devastated society, helping to set up and run vegetable-growing programs. Gradually, from their daily routine and short voiceover comments, it becomes clear exactly what happened on that fateful day and how big the impact is on the two - who survive by the memory of the selfless love of their children and their unshakable belief that one day they will be reunited.
