Montezuma plot
Documentary about the civilization and fall of the mighty Aztec Empire during the reign of its last and most powerful leader: Montezuma II (1466-1520). When Montezuma II inherited the Aztec Empire from his uncle in 1502, he became ruler of five million people and an empire stretching from modern-day Mexico to Nicaracua. But it was a loose mix of semi-independent city-states. Montezuma managed to expand that empire and, above all, to centralize power. But for that he had to wage constant war and exercise a real reign of terror. His terror regime was efficient, but at the same time vulnerable. That became clear when the Spaniards invaded the country. The filmmakers travel to the heart of the former Aztec Empire, investigating how a handful of Spanish soldiers managed to overthrow the mighty empire of Montezuma in no time.
