Midwives plot
Hla and Nyo Nyo both work as midwives at the maternity hospital founded by Hla in Rakhine, western Myanmar. Their collaboration can be called special, because Hla is a Buddhist and Nyo Nyo is a Muslim. In the politically torn country in Southeast Asia, Rohingya Muslims have been persecuted for years. In 2016 and 2017, the army carried out ethnic cleansing and more than 700,000 Rohingya fled. Archive images of demonstrations and refugees, and more recent images of incoming bombs and shelling make the seriousness of the situation painfully palpable.

In Myanmar's Rakhine province, a Buddhist and a Muslim woman join forces in an effort to break down ethnic barriers reinforced by the hate propaganda of Buddhist military leaders and build a safe haven for every pregnant woman in the area . Fly-on-the-wall documentary with two charismatic and driven women as anchor and made at the risk of their own lives. Could have been a bit shorter, but definitely worth it.
