Water is increasingly becoming a scarce commodity. And scarce goods can be traded lucratively. And then banks and funds are quickly involved. The financial world is gaining more and more control over what already passes as 'blue gold'. But maybe that's a good thing and gives water the value it should have? To check that they go to Australia. Dry is an understatement for that country, as witnessed by the recent forest fires. It has never been worse. Water has been scarce there for some time, so the country has acted somewhat as a testing ground for the financialization of water. Did that yield anything?
