'Mahaleo' means 'free and independent' in Malagasy. Mahaleo is also a group of seven committed musicians. Although they have been successful for 30 years, they have never wanted to commercialize their music and have chosen to work for the development of their country. These musicians are also doctors, lawyers, farmers. Their music was an important factor in the upheavals of 1972 that brought an end to colonial rule. Even today, their music still touches the soul of the Malagasy. Set to the rhythm of the power and emotion of Mahaleo's songs, this film is a portrait of contemporary Madagascar.
