Lyrisch Nitraat plot
Delpeut applied the found footage principle, described by some as 'postmodern', to nitrate films from the period 1905-1915 that were rescued in the Film Museum. As well as a tribute to the films of yesteryear, Lyrical Nitrate is also a tribute to the film material used: the delicate nitrate that is good for beautiful images, but also has a great self-destructive power. Lyrical nitrate also outlines the death throes of this material: ending with half-decayed film images, the film shows that the vital force of silent cinema ends irrevocably without intervention.
