Life's a Hideout plot

A 50-year-old wannabe artist embarks on a journey through Latin America in search of his adoptive father. The road takes him past all kinds of eccentric relatives, including an uncle who is an animal killer, a stepbrother with a life sentence and a sweet Indian niece.
