Oscar-winning documentary in which director Schoendoerffer, himself an Indochina veteran, returns there for six weeks in 1966 to follow a battalion of American soldiers fighting the Vietnam War. Together with his cameraman, he lives with the battalion as they eat, sleep, fight and die.
