Kumar Talkies plot
Documentary portraying the role of a cinema in a small village in northern India. The documentary focuses on the relationship between the major Bollywood productions and their audiences. There is only one cinema in the village of Kalpi: Kumar Talkies. Thirty years ago, Pankaj Rishi Kumar's father turned an old factory into a cinema in Kalpi. It doesn't matter which movie is playing, but every day a handful of people come to see it. Kumar Talkies has no hits or flops, the principle of supply and demand does not apply here. The documentary Kumar Talkies sets the real world in Kalpi, where the economic crisis makes life uncertain, against the imaginary world of the silver screen, a world of romance and rebellion in which the impossible becomes possible: imaginary images that are slowly but surely becoming part are part of the collective consciousness of Kalpi.
