Kruispost plot
'We believe in God, so God will reward you', an African patient tells a doctor from the Kruispost in the heart of Amsterdam. The medical practice caters to those without health insurance - particularly illegal immigrants, the homeless and addicts - and is run by about 80 volunteers, including students and retirees. This documentary observes the daily worries at the Kruispost. A bum has his feet taken care of, a junkie cries in vain for his mother, an illegal black woman has an unwanted pregnancy. Some illegal immigrants want to favorably influence their residence status with a medical certificate, but that will not be possible with a runny nose. An obese Eastern European woman, who selectively understands the Dutch language, finds the advice to lose a little weight outrageous. There are also patients who try to avoid the minimum personal contribution. The practice makes grateful use of materials from the AMC, which otherwise go to developing countries. 'Development work in her own country', is what an employee calls her task.
