Kid Dynamite plot
Kid Dynamite traveled as a stowaway from Suriname to the Netherlands in the early twentieth century, where he was an attraction as a Negro and was very successful as a jazz musician with South American influences. Director Hans Hylkema paints a picture of the pre-war jazz scene, with many anecdotes from colleagues and contemporaries. But he also shows the influence of the Surinamese nature religion winti on the music of Kid, who, according to stories, had a magical snake in his body. Hylkema switches back and forth between the Netherlands and Suriname and mixes past and present in his docugraphy about the Surinamese tenor saxophonist.
