Kako Postati Heroj plot
In the summer of 2005, forty-year-old Serbian filmmaker Mladen finds herself in a typical midlife crisis. He feels like a failure, especially as a filmmaker. With some self-mockery, he concludes that none of his dreams of working with people of the caliber of Clint Eastwood or Mel Gibson have come true to date. He is many kilos overweight and does not feel fit, but he is unable to change his situation. Then he sees a report on the Rotterdam marathon on television and gets an idea. He makes a bet with a friend that he will complete the Belgrade Marathon the following year and documents his struggle to achieve this goal on camera. He seeks advice from a trainer, goes on a diet and starts his running training, much to the amusement of his family and friends. Despite a relapse and the ridicule of his surroundings, he perseveres. Very slowly his condition improves, he loses weight and his outlook on life becomes more positive. The chance that he will complete the forty-two kilometers is growing. Gradually, running the marathon becomes a metaphor for everyday life in post-war Serbia.
